Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday inaugurated 729 newly built houses for Sri Lankan Tamils residing in rehabilitation camps across five districts.
The houses, constructed at a cost of Rs 38.76 crore, are located in Keezhputhupattu (Villupuram), Thirumurthi Nagar (Tiruppur), Thammampatti (Salem), Nagavathi Dam and Kesaikuli Dam (Dharmapuri), and Kandiyapuram (Virudhunagar).
The initiative is part of a larger plan announced by the Chief Minister to replace old houses with 7,469 new ones for Sri Lankan Tamils across 26 districts.
In the first phase, orders were issued to build 3,510 houses in 35 camps located in 19 districts.
So far, 2,781 houses have already been handed over to families in 32 camps across 18 districts.
CM Stalin also inaugurated additional buildings for the Dharmapuri Collectorate and various taluk office buildings, constructed at a cost of Rs 54.80 crore, via video conference.
Members of the State Minorities Commission met with the Chief Minister and expressed their gratitude for the government’s support in facilitating pilgrimages for minority religious groups.
On 10th of June Stalin approved annual financial assistance of Rs 10,000 per person for 50 Buddhists, 50 Jains, and 20 Sikhs from Tamil Nadu to undertake pilgrimages within India.
A total of Rs 12 lakh has been allocated under this scheme to support 120 individuals.
The Tamil Nadu government already provides similar pilgrimage subsidies to Muslims for Mecca and Medina and to Christians for Jerusalem.
On the same day, the Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of 10 key government departments during a four-hour meeting at the Secretariat.
In a post on X, CM Stalin praised the departments for their completed work and urged officials to ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects.
