Sweden has claimed the title of the world’s best passport in the 2026 Global Passport Index.
The ranking measures more than visa-free travel, also considering quality of life, investment opportunities and global mobility.
Nine of the world’s top 10 passports belong to European countries, highlighting Europe’s continued dominance.
Singapore is the only non-European nation to make the top 10 list.
The latest index offers travellers a broader view of a passport’s global value beyond border access alone.
A new Global Passport Index for 2026 has ranked Australia 28th and New Zealand 25th among the world’s best passports.
Experts say the rankings reflect how passports increasingly represent opportunities for travel, business and lifestyle.
