A suspicious fire broke out this morning ( 3rd of March ) at an unoccupied church on Park Street in South Melbourne, which was reportedly being used by squatters.
Emergency services arrived at the scene around 8:45 a.m., where they found thick smoke rising from the church roof. Firefighters worked quickly to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings.
Authorities launched a search operation, but no one was present at the time. However, multiple reports suggest that squatters had been living in the building.
The fire has caused significant damage, and its cause remains unconfirmed. Police are treating the incident as suspicious and have begun an investigation.
