Surge in Australian tourists to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is experiencing significant growth, with over 500,000 tourists visiting the country in the first two months of this year.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Bureau anticipates that the number of foreign visitors will surpass 3 million by 2025, contributing to the country’s vital tourism sector.

Notably, Sri Lanka achieved its target of welcoming 2 million foreign tourists last year.

In February alone, 8,778 Australian tourists visited the country, reflecting a rising interest from Australia.

From 1st of January to 5th of March 2025, a total of 530,746 foreign tourists arrived in Sri Lanka, including 84,476 from India, 70,000 from Russia, and 50,000 from the United Kingdom.

Tourists from Germany, France, China, and Australia also contributed to the influx.

In the first five days of March alone, 37,768 foreign tourists arrived in Sri Lanka, further highlighting the country’s growing appeal as a travel destination.
