Former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director, Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital a short while ago and is currently receiving treatment at the Emergency Treatment Unit (ETU), hospital sources confirmed.

Meanwhile, his wife has written to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), requesting an independent criminal investigation into alleged inhumane treatment during his detention in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), including claims of torture, denial of medical care, and abuse of authority.
In her letter, she also stated that the family was informed he has commenced a “fast unto death” while in custody, citing severe mental distress and alleged unfair treatment, and urged immediate intervention due to concerns over his health and safety.
She further noted that a previous complaint submitted on March 7 received no response, and requested that the latest communication be treated as an urgent appeal for investigation and accountability, while legal proceedings related to the 2019 Easter Sunday Attacks continue in court.
