The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing of a Fundamental Rights petition filed by the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) and the Civil Rights Doctors Association (SRDA) for 9th of June .
The petition seeks an interim injunction to halt the use of software developed by Epic Lanka Ltd. for issuing e-passports.
The case was taken up on Friday (May 8) before a bench comprising Justices Yasantha Kodagoda and Sampath Abeykoon.
Only the Attorney General was present on behalf of the respondents.
The court instructed the petitioners’ counsel to take immediate steps against the remaining respondents.
The petitioners claim that the software in question is already being used by both the NMRA and for e-passport issuance, despite previous reports of data fraud linked to the NMRA’s database.
They argue that continued use of this software poses a significant security risk and have requested a restraining order from the Court.
President’s Counsel Uditha Igalahewa appeared for the petitioners.
