Student shocked after alleged hit-run

A 13-year-old Seaton High student was struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident on West Lakes Boulevard, Hendon, just meters from her home.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. when she stepped off a bus and crossed the road onto the median strip.

Recounting the moment, the girl said she was in shock and initially couldn’t believe what had happened.

Witnesses, including a nurse, rushed to her aid until an ambulance arrived.

Her father, Ravi Kanugodu, expressed disappointment that the driver allegedly fled the scene, emphasizing the importance of basic compassion in such situations.

The girl was hospitalized with a fractured pelvis and lacerations to her leg and head.

Police later located the damaged MG SUV in Seaton and arrested the alleged driver, a 68-year-old woman.

She has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failing to report a collision, and due care violations.

The woman has received a 12-month instant loss of license and will face Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on 25th of March.

Police are seeking further witnesses and dashcam footage to assist the investigation.
