A Melbourne shop owner is set to be reunited with two iconic plastic ice-cream cones stolen from the East Melbourne General Store last week.
The Peters-branded cones, a fixture of the store since it opened in 1974, were taken around 2 a.m. on 25th of May with the thieves disabling security cameras to avoid detection.
Store owner Lisette Malatesta told 9News the cones held sentimental value for the local community and feared they might end up hidden in someone’s private collection.
Police tracked the stolen items after they were listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace and executed a search warrant in Templestowe Lower last night.
A 50-year-old man was arrested and is expected to be charged on summons.
The cones were found almost 60 kilometres away at a Gisborne address and are expected to be returned to the store today.
