State of Public Emergency in Sri Lanka extended

The State of Public Emergency declared by the President of Sri Lanka has been extended for an additional month.

The extension has been officially issued through an extraordinary gazette by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Kumanayake.

This decision was made in response to the ongoing disaster situation caused by Cyclone “Ditwah,” with the objective of ensuring public safety, maintaining stability across the country, and guaranteeing the uninterrupted supply of essential services.

In parallel, the government has also extended the gazette notification that classifies key public services as essential. These include services provided by state corporations, government departments, local authorities, and cooperative institutions.

Accordingly, critical sectors such as electricity supply, fuel and gas distribution, healthcare services, and public transportation will continue to operate under essential service regulations to support daily life and national recovery efforts.
