Starlink to launch internet services in SL this week with initial 12 users

The Sri Lanka Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRCSL) has announced that Starlink will officially begin providing satellite broadband internet services in Sri Lanka after this week, starting with an initial group of 12 users.

TRCSL Director General, retired Air Vice Marshal Bandula Herath, made the announcement during a media briefing held on 16th of June He revealed that a total of 112 Starlink equipment kits have already been imported into the country, with 12 kits distributed to the first batch of customers this week.

“Starlink has informed us that 112 equipment kits necessary for the satellite service have been brought in, and they have already started distributing the first 12. Once the distribution is completed by the end of the week, they will officially notify us,” Herath stated.

He added that the initial rollout will be monitored closely by the TRCSL in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence to ensure the service is technically sound, secure, and delivered effectively.

“After a one-week observation period by our agency and the Ministry of Defence, we will take further steps to authorise Starlink to expand its services to more users across Sri Lanka,” he added.
