Starlink launches satellite internet services in SL, says Elon Musk

Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet service is now officially available in Sri Lanka, as confirmed by its owner Elon Musk in a tweet on Wednesday.

In a post on platform X, Musk announced, “Starlink now available in Sri Lanka!”, accompanied by a coverage map showing full nationwide availability.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) had granted Starlink Lanka (Private) Limited a service provider license in August 2024, allowing it to offer satellite-based internet across the country.

Starlink’s service is known for its fast speeds and low latency, outperforming traditional fibre-optic internet and reaching remote areas with limited infrastructure.

With this launch, Sri Lanka becomes the third country in South Asia after Bhutan and Bangladesh to gain access to Starlink’s services.

Starlink operates the world’s largest satellite constellation, with over 6,750 satellites in orbit, and offers internet in more than 100 countries globally, including several in Asia.
