Starlink assisted digitalization for UNP

The United National Party (UNP) is set to begin a major initiative to digitalize its party activities through a specialized digital system supported by Starlink technology, Party General Secretary Harin Fernando announced yesterday.

The digital transformation programme will be officially launched on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. As part of the event, the UNP will formally appoint Digital Wardens for electoral wards across Sri Lanka. In the initial phase, 1,000 Digital Wardens will be appointed, with the aim of making the party’s organisational processes more efficient, faster, and more people-oriented, Fernando said.

He further stated that the new UNP mobile application (UNP App) will also be officially introduced at the event. The app is designed to serve as a digital platform for party members, organisers, and the general public, enabling improved information sharing, awareness, and connectivity.

Another key highlight of the launch will be the official commissioning of Starlink high-speed internet connectivity at the UNP headquarters, Sirikotha, which is expected to significantly enhance the party’s digital communication capabilities. Fernando added that fostering a people-centered, innovative, and technology-driven political culture remains a core objective of the UNP, and this digital launch marks an important step toward achieving that goal.
