SriLankan cabin crew strike begins

SriLankan Airlines cabin crew members have launched a strike action over unresolved demands related to their in-flight meal allowances.

The SriLankan Airlines Cabin Crew Members’ Association stated that the strike is being carried out due to long-standing issues, particularly the reallocation of allowances that were cut during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The association noted that it had repeatedly raised these concerns with the airline’s management, but no satisfactory response was provided.

A spokesperson confirmed that the strike began in April, triggered by the management’s failure to offer a proper solution.

As part of the strike, cabin crew will work only according to their assigned rosters and respond to the crew center during designated hours.

Despite the strike, the association assured that all safety and emergency procedures would be carried out as per the airline’s manual.

Crew members argue that the airline is no longer operating at a loss and have urged management to reinstate the allowance cuts made during the pandemic.
