SriLankan Airlines launches new self-check-in kiosks to speed up passenger processing

SriLankan Airlines’ Airport and Ground Services division, the sole ground handling provider at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), has expanded its self-check-in facilities for passengers ahead of the busy winter travel season. Authorities expect more than 300,000 tourists to arrive in Sri Lanka in December.

The expansion follows the installation of 20 new self-check-in kiosks at the BIA departure terminal last month, increasing the total number of kiosks to 28. Developed by the airline’s in-house IT team, the upgraded system is designed to boost efficiency and enhance the overall passenger experience, supporting the country’s efforts to promote tourism.

The self-check-in system enables travelers to complete the entire process independently—selecting seats, printing boarding passes, and generating bag tags in just a few steps. This is expected to reduce queues and ease congestion within the terminal.
