Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga continued his outstanding international form by winning the men’s javelin event at the Ostrava Golden Spike athletics meet held in the Czech Republic on Tuesday.
Tharanga claimed the title with a best throw of 86.57 metres, defeating a strong field of international competitors.
The victory comes less than two weeks after the 23-year-old produced a world-leading throw of 92.62 metres to win the javelin event at the Rome Diamond League, further strengthening his position among the world’s top javelin throwers.
Tharanga has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough season in 2026, delivering consistent medal-winning performances on the international athletics circuit.
His latest achievement adds another prestigious title to a historic year for Sri Lankan athletics and highlights his growing presence on the global stage.
