
The 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from 5th to 9th April , 2025, gathering parliamentarians worldwide to address key global issues related to international relations, governance, and social development.
Sri Lanka’s delegation, led by Speaker of Parliament Jagath Wickramaratne, actively contributed to discussions, emphasizing the country’s reform agenda and commitment to social progress.

MP J.C. Alawathuwala addressed the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, calling for greater safeguards in international adoption practices to protect vulnerable children.
Parliament Secretary-General Kushani Rohanadeera contributed to the ASGP meetings with a presentation on improving accessibility for persons with disabilities in parliamentary processes, highlighting Sri Lanka’s inclusive initiatives.
The Assembly, themed “Parliamentary Action for Social Development,” concluded on April 9 with a Governing Council Meeting, where Sri Lanka’s delegation played a vital role in shaping global dialogue on peace, human rights, and sustainable development.
