Sri Lanka’s National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) recorded an overall inflation rate of 1.5% year-on-year in August 2025, up from 0.7% in July, the Department of Census and Statistics reported.

Food inflation rose to 2.9% in August, compared with 2.2% in July, while non-food inflation increased to 0.4%, reversing the -0.6% recorded in the previous month.
The data indicates a broad-based upward trend in prices, reflecting rising costs across both food and non-food categories.
