Sri Lanka’s Jayasuriya to step down, Contract runs till June

Sanath Jayasuriya has decided to step down as Sri Lanka’s men’s head coach following the team’s narrow defeat to Pakistan, which ended their T20 World Cup campaign.

Jayasuriya revealed that he had already decided to leave after the tournament, although he has not yet officially informed Sri Lanka Cricket. His current contract runs until June.

“I thought it was time to give it to someone else,” Jayasuriya said. “About two months ago, during the England series, I had already decided that I wouldn’t stay in the job for long. I hoped to leave on a high note after the World Cup, but I wasn’t able to, and that makes me sad.”

While confirming his intention to step down, Jayasuriya did not clarify whether his exit would be immediate. Sri Lanka are scheduled to tour Afghanistan in a limited-overs series starting March 13, although the tour remains uncertain due to tensions in the Middle East.
