Sri Lanka’s inflation rises in May 2025 amid economic pressures

The overall inflation rate in Sri Lanka, measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) on a year-on-year basis, rose to -0.7% in May 2025 from -2.0% in April 2025.

According to the latest data from the Department of Census and Statistics, inflation showed signs of increasing after a period of decline.

The year-on-year inflation rate for the Food Group experienced a significant rise, climbing to 5.2% in May 2025 compared to 1.3% in April 2025.

This increase in food inflation contributed notably to the overall change in the consumer price index for the month.
