
The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has released a comprehensive report detailing child abuse cases currently pending before Sri Lanka’s High Courts.
NCPA Chairperson Preethi Inoka Ranasinghe stated that the report includes cases filed up to January 2026, as well as those scheduled for hearings this month.
According to the report, a total of 4,289 child abuse cases are pending across High Courts nationwide, with 1,683 cases set to be heard during January alone.
Galle Magistrate’s Court recorded the highest number of cases at 442, of which 101 are scheduled for hearings in the Galle High Court this month.
Other High Court caseloads include 423 cases in Kurunegala, 414 in Kandy, 229 in Kalutara, 220 in Gampaha, 216 in Matara, and 206 each in Badulla and Kegalle.
The report, however, does not provide details such as complaint filing dates, the police stations handling the investigations, or the dates indictments were submitted.
