Sri Lanka’s foreign debt reaches USD 37 billion

The Committee on Public Finance, chaired by MP Dr. Harsha de Silva, revealed that Sri Lanka’s foreign debt has reached USD 37 billion, equivalent to Rs. 19.6 trillion.

Officials from the State Debt Management Office, who appeared before the committee, confirmed that all borrowing processes are currently managed exclusively by their office.

Dr. Harsha de Silva emphasized the need to recruit skilled officers to strengthen the country’s debt management operations and ensure more effective oversight.
