

Sri Lanka’s export sector has shown strong growth during the first five months of 2026, with total export earnings surpassing USD 7.3 billion.

According to provisional data from Sri Lanka Customs, along with estimated figures for gems, jewellery and petroleum product exports, total merchandise and service export earnings from January to May 2026 reached approximately USD 7.39 billion.
This marks a 7.56 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025, highlighting the continued expansion of Sri Lanka’s export industry.
Merchandise exports contributed USD 5.75 billion during the period, recording a year-on-year growth of 7.63 percent.
The service export sector also performed positively, earning USD 1.63 billion, which reflects a 7.31 percent increase compared to the previous year.
In May 2026 alone, merchandise exports grew by 18.25 percent, while service exports recorded an 18.67 percent increase compared to May 2025.
The latest figures indicate steady progress in Sri Lanka’s efforts to strengthen export revenues and expand its global trade opportunities.
