

Sri Lanka’s economy recorded a 5.1 percent growth rate in the first quarter of 2026, according to the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS).

The DCS reported that the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at constant 2015 prices increased to Rs. 3,652,503 million during the first quarter of 2026, compared to Rs. 3,476,664 million recorded during the same period in 2025.
All three major sectors of the economy recorded positive growth, with Agriculture expanding by 1.1 percent, Industry by 7.2 percent, and Services by 3.4 percent during the first quarter of the year.
Sri Lanka’s GDP at current prices also rose to Rs. 9,164,652 million from Rs. 8,253,485 million in the corresponding quarter of 2025, reflecting an 11.0 percent increase.
According to the DCS, the Agriculture sector contributed 7.3 percent to the economy, while Industry accounted for 27.2 percent and Services for 54.2 percent of GDP. Taxes less subsidies on products represented 11.3 percent of the country’s GDP during the first quarter of 2026.
The figures were released as part of the Department’s quarterly estimates of GDP and key macroeconomic indicators covering the period from January to March 2026.
