
Sri Lanka witnessed a rise in credit card usage in December 2024, with the total number of active cards reaching 1,970,130.
This marks an increase from 1,951,654 active cards in November 2024, reflecting steady growth in consumer spending.
Compared to December 2023, when the number stood at 1,917,085, credit card adoption has continued to expand.
The Central Bank’s latest data highlights a notable rise in outstanding credit card balances.
The total outstanding balance surged to Rs. 157,957 million in December 2024, up from Rs. 151,614 million in November.
The increase in both active credit cards and outstanding balances indicates a higher reliance on credit for transactions and expenses.
