Sri Lanka’s air quality to deteriorate in Coming Days

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued a warning that air quality in Sri Lanka is expected to worsen in the coming days, with several cities reaching slightly unhealthy levels.

The latest Air Quality Index (AQI) report shows that air pollution in most urban areas remained at a moderate level over the past 24 hours.

However, forecasts suggest that AQI levels will rise to between 85 and 128, pushing many cities into the slightly unhealthy category.

This decline in air quality is due to polluted wind flow from northern regions, which may further elevate pollution levels across the country.

Residents, particularly those with respiratory conditions, are advised to wear face masks and seek medical attention if they experience breathing difficulties.

Cities such as Vavuniya, Nuwara Eliya, Puttalam, Mullaitivu, Polonnaruwa, and Anuradhapura are expected to maintain moderate air quality, while other urban areas may see a significant increase in pollution levels.
