The Sri Lankan government has prioritized the online process for obtaining and renewing passports for citizens living abroad.
A discussion on implementing this system, with support from the International Organization for Migration, was held under the patronage of Minister Vijitha Herath.
It was revealed that 20 selected embassies will be connected to the online system before the end of this year, with full funding provided by the Japanese government.
As a solution to the significant delays in obtaining passports, applications will now be submitted online to the Department of Immigration and Emigration, while fingerprinting will be conducted at the respective embassies.
Meanwhile, Minister Vijitha Herath met with Kanamori Hitoshi, Chairman of IM Japan, a Japanese international manpower organization, to discuss expanding job opportunities for Sri Lankans in Japan.
Japan is currently offering more job opportunities in the nursing and construction sectors under its recruitment program.
Additionally, future employment prospects will include positions in various fields such as driving and other industries.
