Sri Lankan woman and son arrested in India for murder of elderly woman

A Sri Lankan woman and her son were arrested on Friday for murdering a 92-year-old woman at her residence in Paramakudi with the intention of stealing her valuables.

The suspect, identified as Annalakshmi, 52, a Sri Lankan national living in Karur, was employed as a domestic worker at the elderly victim Gnanasoundari’s house.

Annalakshmi initially informed the victim’s relatives about her death, attempting to present it as a natural occurrence.

However, the Paramakudi town police were notified, and upon investigation, they discovered that 7.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery were missing from the house.

Further interrogation revealed that Annalakshmi had murdered the elderly woman during the night and handed over the stolen jewellery to her son, Prabu, 36, who had come from Karur.

Police subsequently arrested both the mother and son, and recovered the stolen gold ornaments.
