
The second leg of the Asian Rugby Sevens begins today at the Race Course Ground in Colombo, featuring both men’s and women’s competitions. The tournament is expected to draw local attention, particularly with two sisters from Australia likely to stand out for their skill and speed.
Participating countries include Japan, China, Hong Kong China, Thailand, Kazakhstan, India, UAE, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
In the Sri Lanka women’s squad, the two sisters—daughters of former S. Thomas’ College fly-half Gimantha Jayasinghe, who resides in Australia—are expected to be key players.
The Sri Lanka men’s squad features Gayan Perera, Kavindu Perera, Kalana Chamuditha, Akash Madushanka, Dinal Ekanayake, Yehan Bulathsinhalage, Heshan Jansen, Diluksha Dange, Janindu Dilshan, Chathura Soysa, Srinath Sooriyabandara, Suranga Tennakoon, Dhashana Dabare, Mohamed Rifan, and Chemod Fernando.
