
Sri Lankan rupee has depreciated by 1.4 percent against the United States dollar so far in 2026, according to the latest exchange rate data as of March 27.
The average exchange rate for the US dollar stood at Rs. 314.42 on March 27, compared to Rs. 311.59 a week earlier and Rs. 296.37 a year ago, indicating continued pressure on the local currency.
The rupee has also weakened against other major currencies, including the British pound, which averaged Rs. 419.46, the Euro at Rs. 362.88, and the Japanese yen at Rs. 1.97.
These trends highlight the ongoing challenges faced by the Sri Lankan currency in the global foreign exchange market.
