A 32-year-old Sri Lankan female politician, known for her influence in the country’s political landscape, has been granted asylum in New Zealand after facing life threats.
According to media reports, her house was raided by an armed group a few days ago, allegedly involving supporters of a powerful Member of Parliament.
This is not the first instance of threats against her family. Earlier, a relative of hers died in a motorcycle accident, and a threatening letter was reportedly found near his coffin.
In 2022, her parents’ house was also set on fire, further escalating concerns for her safety.
Fearing for her life, the politician fled to New Zealand, where she has now been granted asylum.
