A Sri Lankan Parliamentary delegation led by Deputy Speaker Rizvie Salih visited India from 25th to 31st of May 2025, to participate in an orientation programme at the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE) in New Delhi.
The delegation included 20 Members of Parliament from various political parties, along with four senior parliamentary officials, including the Secretary General.
This group was the first to undergo the orientation programme at PRIDE, marking a significant step in parliamentary cooperation between Sri Lanka and India.
The programme followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s April 2025 announcement in Colombo, offering 700 customized annual training slots for Sri Lankan professionals.
During their visit, the delegation met with the Speaker of India’s Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla.
The orientation included interactive sessions on legislative procedures, budgetary processes, and the functioning of parliamentary committees in India.
Senior Indian MPs, parliamentary officials, and media professionals shared insights into India’s democratic framework and parliamentary practices with the Sri Lankan participants.
