Sri Lankan man charged with sexual assault on international flight”

A 41-year-old Sri Lankan man accused of committing an indecent act on a flight from Colombo to Melbourne appeared before the Broadmeadows Magistrate’s Court today.

The Australian Federal Police confirmed yesterday that the man allegedly acted indecently in front of a female passenger during the flight.

The incident was reported to airline staff by the affected woman, who then alerted Australian Airport Police upon landing.

The Sri Lankan passenger has been charged and will face further legal proceedings at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on 9th of January 2025.

Under Australian law, the offense carries a maximum penalty of up to seven years in prison.

Following his initial court appearance, the suspect was granted bail with conditions to reappear in court next month.

The AFP stated that the complaint was thoroughly investigated after being brought to their attention on 18th of December 2024.

The incident highlights the importance of reporting inappropriate behavior to authorities to ensure legal action is taken.

Airline staff promptly informed law enforcement after the passenger raised her concerns about the suspect’s behavior during the flight.

The case underscores the serious consequences of indecent conduct on international flights.
