A group of inventors has developed software that allows users to locate any bus in transit using a mobile phone.
The inventors, Githaj Kelum Ramawickrema from Wellethota, Lakmal Sanjeewa Jayawickreme from Naimbala, and Samaira Tharanga Premananda from Udawalawa, are professionals in computer technology.
The software was formally presented at the SANASA reception hall in Nupe, Matara, during the inauguration of Yan Lanka Institution.
Yan Lanka Institution introduced Sri Lanka’s first “Smart Bus Service,” now operational in the Southern Province with eight buses, including one on the Wellethota-Matara route.
The software provides real-time information on bus arrival, departure, and destination. Parents can track school buses, and passengers can reserve seats through www.yanlanka.com.
Currently, the software is used in private buses in areas like Matara-Wellethota, Urubokka, Pasgoda, Akuressa, Weligama, Dikwella, and others. Plans are underway to expand its use to SLTB buses.
Guests at the launch included Matara Asst. Divisional Secretary Anura Wijesekara, President of Matara District Private Bus Operators Janaka Wimasekara, and other notable officials.
