Namal Rajapaksa of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) says the Sri Lankan government must clarify whether it had prior knowledge of the mission that led to the incident involving the Iranian warship off the country’s southern coast.
Speaking to India Today, Rajapaksa stated that the Sri Lanka Navy had acted in accordance with international law by carrying out a rescue operation for those affected by the incident.
However, he stressed that it is now the responsibility of the Government of Sri Lanka to explain whether it was aware in advance of the operation that resulted in the attack.
Rajapaksa further said that if the government had not been informed about the mission, it should formally raise the matter with the authorities in the United States.
