

Sri Lankan-born Professor Nishan Canagarajah has been knighted by King Charles III in recognition of his outstanding contribution to higher education.

The honour was presented during an investiture ceremony held at Windsor Castle on July 7.
Professor Canagarajah currently serves as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.
He was recognised in the 2026 King’s New Year Honours for his exceptional leadership and commitment to promoting inclusion in education.
His achievement has been celebrated as a proud moment for Sri Lanka and the global Sri Lankan community.
The knighthood highlights his lasting impact on higher education and his inspiring journey from Sri Lanka to international recognition.
