A Sri Lankan national has been arrested in Israel over allegations of sexually abusing a schoolgirl enrolled at a special needs school, according to Sri Lanka’s Embassy in Israel.
The Embassy said it was informed by the Interpol Branch of the Israeli Police that the suspect was taken into custody by the Beit Shemesh Police and is being held for further investigations.
According to information received by the Embassy, the individual had arrived in Israel in May 2025 for employment and had later taken up temporary work outside his original job sector.
Israeli authorities are currently investigating the suspect over allegations involving the abuse of a minor with special needs. No additional details have been released due to the ongoing investigation.
In a statement, the Embassy emphasised that Israel has strict criminal laws and that those found guilty of serious offences face severe penalties, including lengthy prison terms. It noted that foreign nationals convicted of such crimes are also deported after serving their sentences.
The Embassy urged all Sri Lankans living and working in Israel to strictly follow the country’s laws and social regulations at all times. It warned that legal violations can lead to imprisonment and other serious consequences, and stressed that unlawful behaviour by individuals can negatively affect the wider Sri Lankan community in Israel.
