A 28-year-old Sri Lankan passenger was arrested early today (14) at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, for attempting to smuggle 2.308 kilograms of heroin valued at Rs. 69.24 million.
The suspect, a resident of Rambukkana, had arrived at BIA around 12:30 a.m. from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on AirAsia flight AK-047.
Airport Police Narcotics Bureau officers discovered the drugs hidden in a false bottom of the suspect’s travel bag, resulting in his arrest.
Further investigations into the case are currently underway.
