Anura Kumara Dissanayake said Sri Lanka will present itself to the world as a nation that carries the banner of humanity, offering compassion and moral support in times of global conflict rather than taking sides.

The President said Sri Lanka is not only focused on domestic development but is also establishing its presence on the international stage through values rooted in humanity and solidarity.
He made these remarks while addressing the National People’s Power (NPP) International Women’s Day celebration held at the P. D. Sirisena Stadium in Colombo.
Dissanayake noted that although Sri Lanka is a small country without a vast economy, advanced technology or powerful weaponry, it is striving to build a nation that stands out globally for its commitment to humanity.
He said that in many global conflicts there are those who fight, those who provide support for war and those who encourage it, but Sri Lanka aspires to be a nation that promotes humanity and peace in the face of conflict.
The President also stressed the importance of developing policies that protect and empower every segment of society, ensuring that no one is left behind in the country’s progress.
He said this includes safeguarding the rights and well-being of children, women, the elderly and economically disadvantaged communities, while strengthening compassion and solidarity for those affected by disasters or hardships.
Dissanayake further emphasized that the vision of a “Sri Lanka of Humanity” requires creating a society where women can live and travel freely without fear, where girls are protected from abuse and where no woman faces violence at home or in the workplace.
He added that the government is committed to building a state where every individual is recognised, respected and treated with dignity as a human being.
