

Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Sri Lanka, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), held bilateral discussions with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, Phan Van Giang, and his delegation at the Hilton Colombo on May 8.

The talks focused on strengthening longstanding bilateral relations and expanding defence cooperation between Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
During the meeting, the Defence Secretary expressed appreciation to the Vietnamese Government and delegation for their continued support and cooperation with Sri Lanka.
General Phan Van Giang reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to deepening engagement with Sri Lanka’s defence sector in areas of mutual interest. He also congratulated Sri Lanka on its recent progress and reiterated Vietnam’s support for a secure and cooperative partnership between the two nations.
The Vietnamese delegation included Lieutenant General Tran Cong Chinh, Director General of GDDI, Lieutenant General Vu Thanh Van, Director General of the Foreign Relations Department, and Senior Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Dai, Vietnam’s Defence Attaché to India.
Senior officials from Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence, including the Senior Additional Secretary and the Military Liaison Officer, also participated in the discussions.
