Sri Lanka’s tourism sector has reached a major milestone, with international tourist arrivals officially crossing 1.3 million in 2026.
According to the latest figures from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, 1,386,228 tourists visited the island between January 1 and August 6.
Sri Lanka welcomed 42,810 visitors during the first six days of August alone, showing continued strength in the tourism sector.
India remains the largest source market with more than 346,000 arrivals, followed by the United Kingdom, China, Germany and Russia.
Sri Lanka recorded more than 2.36 million tourist arrivals in 2025, and the latest figures indicate strong momentum toward another successful tourism year.
The continued growth is expected to provide a boost to hotels, travel businesses and the wider Sri Lankan economy.
