Fifteen Sri Lankan tourism stakeholders registered under the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) showcased their offerings at the JATA Tourism Expo 2025 in Japan this week.
Sri Lanka Tourism participated in the international travel fair, held from September 25 to 28, 2025, at the Aichi Sky Expo (Aichi International Exhibition Center) in Nagoya. As one of Asia’s premier travel trade events, Tourism EXPO Japan, launched in 2014, brings together global stakeholders across all sectors of the tourism industry.
This year’s expo attracted participants from 82 countries and regions, represented by 1,350 companies and organizations, and recorded a total of 127,677 visitors over four days.
Sri Lanka’s presence was coordinated by the SLTPB, with full support from the Sri Lanka Embassy in Tokyo to ensure successful engagement at the expo.
The official opening of the Sri Lanka Pavilion was attended by SLTPB Managing Director Sampath Nissanaka and representatives from participating Sri Lankan tourism businesses. The pavilion featured vibrant cultural performances, including traditional dance, which drew significant attention from visitors. Ceylon tea was also served throughout the event, earning widespread appreciation from Japanese attendees for its rich flavor and aroma.
Japan remains one of Sri Lanka’s key tourism source markets. As of September 2025, Sri Lanka recorded 28,799 tourist arrivals from Japan, a 29.4% increase compared to the same period last year.
Sri Lanka’s participation in JATA Tourism Expo 2025 provided a valuable platform to strengthen tourism ties with Japan, enhance destination awareness, and showcase the island’s unique travel experiences to a global audience.
