Sri Lanka tourism booms in 2024, eyes bigger 2025

Sri Lanka achieved a tourism milestone in 2024, generating $3.17 billion in revenue, a 53.2% increase from 2023, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).

International arrivals surged to over two million, marking a 38.1% rise, driven by global marketing campaigns, improved connectivity, and simplified visa processes.

The government aims to attract three million visitors and generate $5 billion in tourism revenue by 2025, focusing on upgraded infrastructure, eco-tourism, and community-driven experiences.

The island’s diverse offerings—pristine beaches, ancient temples, wildlife safaris, and vibrant festivals—are positioning it as a top global travel destination.

By embracing sustainability and reimagining tourism strategies, Sri Lanka is set to become a leader in transformative and eco-conscious travel in 2025 and beyond.
