Sri Lanka is set to receive a major boost to its international air connectivity this August, with three new airline services scheduled to begin operations.
Vietnam Airlines will launch a new Ho Chi Minh City-Colombo service on August 16, followed by VietJet Air on August 18.
Meanwhile, Jetstar will launch its first-ever direct Melbourne-Colombo service on August 25, creating a new air link between Australia and Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka has already welcomed nearly 1.4 million international tourists up to July 6, reflecting strong demand for travel to the island.
Deputy Minister of Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku said the new airlines will strengthen international connectivity at a crucial time for the tourism and aviation sectors.
The new services are expected to increase seat capacity, expand travel options and boost tourism, business and people-to-people links with Vietnam and Australia ahead of the winter travel season.
