Sri Lanka to launch 24-hour passport service

Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala proposed a 24-hour passport issuance service to address the ongoing crisis and expedite processing times.

The new system would operate in three shifts, utilizing both current government officers and retired trained officials to manage the growing demand.

Minister Wijepala also outlined plans to increase daily passport issuance capacity and establish an Immigration and Emigration office in Jaffna.

To support the initiative, the department intends to secure additional staff to enhance efficiency and improve public service delivery.
