Sri Lanka to introduce fingerprint scanners in all government offices

The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government has announced plans to install fingerprint scanning systems in all state institutions as part of a nationwide effort to enhance attendance monitoring and operational efficiency.

Minister Dr. Chandana Abeyratne noted that fingerprint scanners have already been installed in several government offices, including Divisional Secretariats. The initiative is designed to streamline employee attendance tracking and reduce irregularities in duty reporting.

The primary goal of the program is to establish a disciplined and transparent system for recording employee arrivals and departures, while minimizing discrepancies and misuse of attendance records.
