Sri Lanka to establish steering committee for digitization of healthcare services

A special discussion, held under the patronage of Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa, focused on establishing a Steering Committee to digitally transform Sri Lanka’s free healthcare system.

The session examined the potential for digital transformation in line with the country’s national health policy for the next ten years, reviewing both short-term and long-term strategies to achieve this goal.

Participants extensively discussed the formulation of a strategic framework for healthcare digitalization, enhancing infrastructure through digital tools, implementing key projects with international support, and defining essential concepts, requirements, and expected outcomes for the Steering Committee. Attention was also given to developing the necessary human resources and training programs to ensure efficient implementation.

Dr. Arjuna Thilakarthne, Deputy Director General (Medical Services) of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, presented a draft concept paper outlining these key areas.

The session was attended by Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne, Senior Advisor to the President on Digital Economy Dr. Hans Wijesuriya, Secretary to the Ministry Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Additional Secretaries, Deputy Directors General, Directors, and other subject matter experts.
