Sri Lanka has said that India responded positively to a request for assistance in securing fuel supplies if tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate.
The request was made by Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath during an official meeting with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during his visit to India on March 6.
During the discussions, Herath raised concerns about the potential impact on Sri Lanka’s energy supplies if the conflict situation in the Middle East persists, and sought India’s support to ensure access to adequate fuel stocks.
The Sri Lankan government said India had conveyed a positive response to the request and that steps are already being considered to address the matter.
According to the statement, the move is intended to ensure that Sri Lanka maintains a stable and uninterrupted fuel supply amid uncertainty in global energy markets.
