Sri Lanka reports record tourism and remittance earnings in 2025

Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath stated that Sri Lanka recorded significant economic achievements in 2025, with tourist arrivals reaching 2.36 million and generating USD 3.2 billion in revenue, while migrant worker remittances exceeded USD 7.8 billion.

Speaking at a media networking reception held in Colombo yesterday (20), he said the combined contribution from tourism and remittances amounted to approximately USD 11 billion, reflecting the results of strategic diplomatic engagement, policy initiatives, and institutional reforms led by the Ministry.

Minister Herath noted that these achievements demonstrate the Government’s commitment to advancing the national policy framework “A Thriving Nation – A Beautiful Life” under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

He also emphasized that transparent communication and responsible media reporting are essential for strengthening Sri Lanka’s international reputation and building public confidence.

Highlighting future initiatives, the Minister said Sri Lanka Expo 2026 will serve as an important platform to showcase the country’s potential in trade, tourism, investment, and innovation.
