Sri Lanka reports over 11,000 dengue cases in 2024

A three-day special mosquito control program has been launched in eight high-risk districts starting today (27th).

The program will be carried out in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Matale, and Matara, where mosquito density is reported to be high.

The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) has warned that intermittent rains may increase the risk of dengue spreading again.

In response, the special mosquito control program will continue until 29th of March .

As part of the initiative, inspections will be conducted in houses, schools, workplaces, factories, places of worship, and public areas.

Health authorities have also urged the public to eliminate any mosquito breeding sites on their properties.

So far this year, more than 11,000 dengue cases have been reported across Sri Lanka.
