Sri Lankan police have recently repatriated 125 individuals suspected of involvement in telecom fraud to China, according to the Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS).
Chinese state media Xinhua reported that the suspects were apprehended during earlier crackdown operations carried out in Sri Lanka.
The repatriation took place on March 29 with the support of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka and Chinese law enforcement authorities, as part of strengthened bilateral cooperation to combat cross-border telecom fraud.
The MPS stated that the joint operation reflects growing coordination between Sri Lankan and Chinese police in addressing the rising trend of telecom fraud networks relocating across countries.
Authorities in both nations have intensified enforcement efforts this year, with Sri Lankan police conducting multiple raids, dismantling several suspected fraud operations, and arresting individuals linked to such activities.
Public security officials in China’s Hubei Province are currently investigating the cases further, while the MPS has pledged to continue expanding international cooperation to combat transnational crime more effectively.
